I once got a poem spammed to me. I deleted the message a long while ago, but I still have the poem itself saved:

Spammers are getting clever now. Apparently, bots have been replaced with people so that they can read through a targeted site/article, pick up the gist of it and type out a short reply that agrees/disagrees with the author.

I have received some spam emails that I thought were outright stupid though.I use to receive emails trying to sell me Viagra with an image of a few pills and an extract from a book (as you said happens), but there was no link in the e-mail to be found. So even if I did want to enhance my sexual appearance, I wouldn't be able to.

How dumb is that?
