It's the notion of the "water cooler" that is fascinating to me, especially with so many of the tweeters either working out of their homes or spending a great deal of time on the road. Solitary travel or work can be lonely as hell, and with Twitter, we have a "community" of people to connect with. People who can inspire and inform each other - and people who also care about each other just as much as if we all worked under the same roof. And the ability to share information is mind-blowing in its potential - I have solicited advice on writing code, blogging, and whether I should purchase a Blackberry or iPhone. I have been pointed to the latest thinking on technology, SEM, SEO, photography, Web 2.0, software add-ons and a myriad of other things I would never have found working by myself in Roanoke or playing on Google. The people I have met on Twitter are creative, smart, and very generous - 140 characters at a time! It's all about community. I have been a tweeter since the very first days and I think it is a good way to 'stay connected'.
